Its sort of become a tradition to draw BTS on new years eve.
Their concept photos are fantastic studies and such great practice for lighting.

My MANifestation for this year is Jungkook. Golden Maknae. Let’s be gentle and kind this year to ourselves and remember we are doing alright. We take it one step at a time and we will get to where we want to go.

You’ll be alright, oh, this here is the Magic Shop
~BTS

For the final part of my vis dev course which was designing an environment I decided to envision Magic Shop and try capture the essence of the song that means so much to me.

I worked on this drawing on and off throughout 2021, and at times it was really hard to keep going. It was such a learning process of trust, as I
put colours down I never thought would work but through the process I got to harmonize.

In a way I spent time in magic shop, learning about myself and being ok when things did not go to plan but having unconditional trust I would get there.
Magic Shop is always there when we need it, all we need to do is open our hearts.

This drawing is a treasure trove of easter eggs so if you are ARMY try spot them.

i think the funniest and realist thing i’ve realized lately is how troubling idealization can be. every person is just… a person. the very people you want to impress or be apart of are just people. even if they seem wildly intimidating because of the way they look or because of their reputation, every one is just a person. human. as embarrassing, as remorseful and they are going through stages of growth just like you are. we only see what we want to see and then drown ourselves further in our own depression and we don’t have to.

truly and i am learning the less i idealise others, the more willing i am to meet people where they are warts n all. and the more willing i am to show myself too and bring my whole self into things. my own embarrassment becomes a new normal and fine thing. stumbling becomes more endearing.

had a teacher once who told us “idealizing people is just as dehumanizing as demonizing them” and that stuck with me so much

I cannot believe its almost time for Light Box Expo again!!!

I did this #DTIYS by Pernille while listening to incredible panels at Light Box last year.

I’m so excited to do it again!!!! Got to get ready for little sleep and a whole lot of fun. Its great getting to celebrate art together.

A lot of the advice I got about learning to enforce my boundaries was framed as an adversarial thing. Like, ‘yes, it might upset and disappoint the people around you, but you have to learn to tell them ‘no’ anyway.’ At best, ‘good people will still like you if you enforce your boundaries’.

What I wish I’d been told is that good people will think it's awesome that you enforce your boundaries, that there are people who will respect the hell out of you for it, that there are people who will admire you not despite you telling them no, but because of it. That most people don’t want to make you do something you don’t enjoy, and so they’ll actively be happier and more relaxed around you if they know they can trust you to decline to do things you don’t enjoy and to ask them to stop things that bother you.

It helped me a lot, personally, to stop thinking of ‘enforcing my boundaries’ as something I did for me and more as something I did to empower the people I was close with, to build a situation where they and I felt sure everything that was going on was something we all wanted.

Most advice isn’t good for everyone and this advice seems maybe bad for people in abusive situations, because sometimes you do need to learn to enforce boundaries against people who will try to violate them. But if there are other brains like me out there: your partner will be really happy you can say no to them. your friend will be really happy you change the subject when you hate it. your roommate will really appreciate that you tell them to turn down the music. most people will feel safer and more comfortable around you if they know you’ll reliably express your needs, AND they’ll feel better about voicing theirs.

My Moonshadow Self

A while ago I came across the Dragon Prince Quiz that helped you find out what your Primal Source was. (I love those sorts of quizzes)

Mine tuned out to be the Moon.

I thus drew myself as a moon shadow elf. (Because they are pretty badass)

This was a challenging drawing, mostly the environment but overall it turned out really great.

Gris was such an incredibly beautiful game, I loved the water colours and the overall feeling I got when playing. After watching the movie Promare and seeing all the bright colours and Lio’s design the thought of combining the 2 worlds popped up. This was the result and its so wonderful.

I went with a samurai outfit and sword because in the Gris world I think Lio would combine his knowledge of martial arts and fire.

Learning how to use digital water colour brushes for this was both a painful and fun but so worth it.

It was so refreshing to do a more realistic digital drawing. Fun experimenting with textures and brushes. BTS are such great art studies and their photoshoots range from simple to interesting environments so you can really have fun while drawing them.

this may be an Unpopular Opinion (even on tumblr) but like the 8-hour workday is just Too Gotdamn Long

like even sitting in an office for eight hours a day isn’t particularly pleasant (or healthy, as we are beginning to see) but when we’re talking about doing *actual work* for that same amount time it gets pretty fucking brutal

doing literally *anything* (even leisure activities) for eight hours straight tends to be less than enjoyable but when we’re talking about things like construction, landscaping, factory work, and hell, even foodservice and retail, eight hours is a fucking ETERNITY

i might just be a lazy weak-willed bitch but honestly i think i’m not entirely wrong

this was being worked towards by leftist labor unions way back in the day after the time of FDRs new deal. people in the 40s and 50s were already starting to realize that we no longer actually needed an 8 hour work day or even a 5 day work week.

even with the comparatively primitive factory tech of the time we were already creating a huge amount of excess production back then and companies were making massive amounts of profit. So it already stood to reason that companies should either let their employees work less and thus each employee could work a shorter shift without lowering the yearly compensation of each employee, or in cases where businesses provide an active service they would shorten the shift but hire more people to cover the necessary operating time. but of course that would mean less money for people at the top so companies fought back hard and we ended up with nixon’s bullshit and so on and now its considered the norm for us to spend the vast majority of our lives doing work that really just amounts to waste.

The IWW realised this and were fighting for it all the way back in the 1930s. This is a take with a lot of historical and theoretical grounding, OP, so you’re standing in good stead.

I’d also like to add it’s also been studied and scientifically proven that after 6 hours, we have an extremely noticeable drop in productivity. Sweden saw nothing but benefits from a 6-hour work day, including worker productivity, happiness, and half the amount of sick-leave used when applied to nurses.

https://onlinemasters.ohio.edu/the-six-hour-workday/

Just gonna add that the IWW is still kicking and basically anyone who is not an employer can join.
